I took the opportunity of Mr.
Taft's visit to discuss with him the following matters:-
(1)
Reduction of surtax on Philippine Raw Sugar.
(11) Repatriation of American destitutes.
(111) The Boycott by Chinese of American Goods as
a protest against the manner in which the
law excluding Chinese labourers from the
United States is being administered.
I am reporting on these matters in separate Despatches.
5.
Mr. Taft in a letter which was
handed to me after he had left expressed great pleasure at
the way in which he and his party had been received and
promised to communicate with me from Washington on the
first two subjects mentioned above.
